Dean Rahas

Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach

Boys Varsity Basketball

Dean Rahas enters his 21st year as the Varsity Head Boys Basketball Coach for the Revere Minutemen. During Coach Rahas’s tenure, the Minutemen have won six Suburban League Championships and one District Championship. He was named Suburban League Coach of the Year in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2023. He was also selected Summit County Coach of the Year in 2011,2018 and 2019. He served as Head Coach for the Greater Akron Basketball Coaches Association All-Star Game in 2011 and 2019. In 2010 and 2019 he was the Head Coach for the Summit/Stark County All-Star Game. He was named the Northeast Ohio Coach of the Year in 2011 and 2018.

Coach Rahas has been very fortunate to coach some outstanding young men while at Revere. Pete Nance (brother of Larry Nance Jr.) currently plays for Northwestern University in the Big 10. Current New Orleans Pelican Larry Nance jr. (son of NBA legend Larry Nance) played for Coach Rahas from 2009-2011. DJ Bettinger was another 2010 Revere graduate who went on to start  for Indiana Wesleyan where they won four league championships including a National Championship. Connor Edel, class of 2010 played at Case Western University. Ameer Elbuluk, a 2009 graduate went on to play at Princeton. Current JV Coach KJ Creamer went on to play for Division II Southern New Hampshire.

Before coming to Revere High School, Rahas served as a graduate assistant for the Cleveland State University Men’s Basketball Team under legendary Coach Rollie Massimino for two years. Prior to CSU, Rahas was an assistant coach for the Varsity Boys Basketball Team at Olmsted Falls High School under Hall of Fame Coach Pat Donahue for three years.

Rahas played college basketball during his freshman year at Ohio University before transferring to Cleveland State University to play for Rollie Massimino. During his time at CSU, he was a three-year letterwinner and also a three-time Midwestern Scholar Athlete. Growing up in Parma Hts., Ohio, Rahas played for Coach John Stavole at Valley Forge High School. During his senior year, Rahas led the Patriots to 21-3 record including a District Championship and a Lake Erie League Championship. In that time he received numerous awards: 3rd Team All-Ohio, 1st Team All-District,1st Team All-Lake Erie League, 1st Team Plain Dealer All-Star, Channel 43 Boys Basketball “Top Ten” Team (1992) and All-American Cage Classic Participant.    

Rahas earned his bachelor’s degree in Health and Physical Education from Cleveland State University in 1997 and a master’s degree in School Counseling in 2002. He is married to his wife Lisa and they have two children, Elli and Michael.
