On Saturday, January 20th, the Revere Middle School wrestling team traveled to Massillon to compete in the 2024 Massillon Junior High School Tiger Duals.  Individually, 9 wrestlers had an opportunity to represent Revere, and of the 9 wrestlers most of them were able to compete in six matches in the course of the day.  After 7 hours of wrestling competition and 45 separate matches, not one of our varsity wrestlers finished the day undefeated. We did have three wrestlers finished the day with more wins than losses: Carter Patton at 98 lbs., Matteo Brienza at 104 lbs. and Elijah Robinson at 142 lbs. Carter and Matteo are having outstanding seasons on the wrestling mat.   With their victories over the weekend both have exceeded the 20 win mark on the season !!! Carter Patton is currently 22 - 8 with 10 pins, and Matteo Brienza is currently 23 - 11 with 11 pins. Two other wrestlers finished the day with an equal number of wins and losses: Riley Harrington at 86 lbs. and Logan Blewitt at 98 lbs. For his efforts this past Saturday, and for the improvement shown over the past few weeks, Michael Opsincs was chosen as our Wrestler of the Week !!!   Michael had his first two pins of the year and is starting to figure it out as a first-year wrestler. Today, Wednesday, January 24th, our wrestlers will host Wadsworth Middle School and Maple Heights (Milkovich) Middle School in our only home competition for this season.  Unfortunately, weather conditions last week wiped out our other home event with Highland and Woodridge. Come cheer on Matteo, Carter, and the other RMS wrestlers as they battle against our Suburban League foe Wadsworth Middle School.  All the action is scheduled to begin at 5:00pm. This past Saturday, January 6th, 2024, the Revere Middle School wrestling team traveled to Uniontown to take part in the 2024 Lake Middle School Blue Streaks Invitational Tournament.  This is a very prestigious middle school wrestling tournament with outstanding wrestling programs from all over northeast Ohio. At the end of the tournament, our wrestlers had competed in 21 individual matches against wrestlers from the 15 other teams that had come to wrestle at the Lake Athletic Complex. Individually, 8 wrestlers had an opportunity to represent Revere, and 2 of our 8 wrestlers finished in the top six in their respective weight classes.  The first place champion for REVERE was: Carter Patton at 98 lbs..  Carter is currently 11 - 6 on the season with 5 pins. The fourth place wrestler for REVERE was: Matteo Brienza at 104 lbs..  Matteo is currently 9 - 6 on the season with 4 pins. Carter came into the tournament as an unseeded wrestler and proceeded to beat the 4th seed from Twinsburg, the 1st seed from Hudson, and the 2nd seed from Alliance.  Carter's finals match against Alliance was certainly one of the most exciting matches of the tournament.  The score went back and forth over the first three periods, but Carter prevailed with a takedown in overtime and won 9 - 7 !!! Matteo also came into the tournament as an unseeded wrestler.  He had a solid day of wrestling as he won twice by pin and once by major decision on his way to a fourth place finish. For his efforts on Saturday, Carter Patton was selected as our Wrestler of the Week !!! Today, Wednesday, January 10th, our wrestlers will travel to Barberton Middle School to compete against wrestlers from Aurora and Barberton.  All the action is scheduled to begin at 5:30pm.  If you see one of our wrestlers in class, or in the hallway, wish him luck this afternoon !!! On Saturday, December 23rd, the Revere Middle School wrestling team traveled to the Lake High School Athletic Complex to compete in the 2023 Lake Middle School Christmas Duals.  Individually, 10 wrestlers had an opportunity to represent Revere, and of the 10 wrestlers there were 9 that were able to compete in five matches in the course of the day.   Unfortunately, not one of our varsity wrestlers finished the day undefeated. Several wrestlers were missing due to illness, injury, or vacations with their family.  Three varsity wrestlers finished the day with 3 wins and 2 losses: Drew Coven at 86 lbs., Carter Patton at 98 lbs. and Matteo Brienza at 104 lbs. For his efforts on the Saturday that started Christmas break, and for the first half of the season, Matteo Brienza was chosen as our Wrestler of the Week !!!   Matteo is 6 - 6 with 2 pins on the season. Tomorrow, Saturday, January 6th, our wrestlers will travel back to Uniontown Lake to compete in the Lake Invitational Tournament.  With 16 teams competing in the tournament this year, the event is sure to live up to its legacy of being one of the premier middle school wrestling tournaments in northeast Ohio. Each of our wrestlers will battle to finish in the top six in their respective weight class and finish the day on the podium. Leading the way for our middle school wrestling team will be Brady Hajdu, Matteo Brienza, and Carter Patton. This past Saturday, December 9th, the Revere Middle School wrestling team traveled to Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy High School to compete in the 2023 CVCA Middle School Duals.    At the end of the tournament, our wrestling team finished with a record of no wins and three losses on the day, and placed 13th out of 16 teams.    Revere started out the 2023-2024 season with a loss to Mayfield by a score of 71 - 15.  Mayfield won the tournament. Revere took on Buckeye in the second round and lost by a score of 66 - 24. Revere suffered its third loss of the day to North Canton Hoover.  The final team score was 76 - 9.   Individually, 11 wrestlers had an opportunity to represent Revere, and of the 11 wrestlers there were 9 that were able to compete in five matches in the course of the day.  Four of our varsity wrestlers finished the day with a winning record !!!  The four varsity wrestlers were: Shiloh Edwards was 3 - 2, with 2 pins, at 80 lbs. Drew Coven was 3 - 2, with 2 pins, at 86 lbs. Brady Hajdu was 4 - 1, with 4 pins, at 116 lbs. Elijah Robinson was 3 - 2, with 1 pin, at 142 lbs.   Best takedown of the tournament went to Brady Hajdu; who hit a perfect duck-under takedown on his opponent that led to a quick pin !!!  For his efforts this past weekend,  was Brady Hajdu was chosen as our Wrestler of the Week !!!   Today, Wednesday, December 13th, our wrestlers will travel to Highland Middle School to take on Tallmadge and Kent Roosevelt.  All the action is scheduled to begin around 5:00pm.    If you see one of our RMS wrestlers in class, or in the hallway, wish him luck against today's competition !!!   GO  MINUTEMEN  !!
