On behalf of the Revere Athletic Department, I would like to introduce the new Coordinator of Strength and Conditioning at Revere Schools, Tanner Schroer, CSCS. Tanner is a 2021 graduate of Ohio Northern University with a BS in Exercise Physiology. Tanner completed internships at Division III Ohio Northern and at Division II Findlay University working closely with football, women's soccer, and volleyball. Currently he is completing his MS in Exercise Physiology at Division I University of Akron where he served as a graduate assistant over the past year working as assistant strength coach for men's soccer, and head strength coach for women's soccer, women's basketball, and women's golf. In his time at multiple collegiate levels, Tanner has learned that his passion is to work at the high school level where he knows he will have the greatest impact as a Strength and Conditioning Coach in the long-term athletic development of young athletes.
Over the past year, a dedicated group of Revere parents including a variety of health professionals, concerned parents, and parents of injured athletes began discussing the opportunity of implementing a comprehensive and unified strength and conditioning program. We envisioned a program that maximally prepared and protected our young athletes, embraced evidence-based long-term athletic development, and enhanced the overall athlete experience at Revere. We wanted to build a "Strength Culture" within Revere Schools that would be present on the fields and courts, in the classrooms, and in the community.
Through this process I met and talked with collegiate strength educators, credentialed strength coaches, high school teachers, coaches and administrators, and various outside health professionals and colleagues. I also spoke with other Ohio public high school administrators with a similar vision and now have an in-house, district-employed strength and conditioning coach. This remains my long-term goal for Revere. After almost 30-years of rehabilitating and preparing young athletes, I believe this structure will become the standard in many high schools over the next 5-10 years. Therefore, Revere will be setting the qualified strength and conditioning professional standard as a model for other public schools. Until then, Tanner remains an independent contractor with ACTIV in Richfield contracted with Revere Schools.
Change is always difficult but needed for growth. Community expectations in the Revere classrooms are always high and should not be any different in the Revere weightroom. The weightroom will be treated as a classroom for physical development. Just like academics, music, and the arts, physical development is skill-based and requires significant planning, tracking, gender equity, and individual emphasis. We are responsible for our kids' full development and for preparing and protecting them to the highest degree possible with a "best practice" strength and conditioning approach. This is the Vision of a Minuteman! This is about our kids and their healthy and strong future! Thank you to our new administrators and the school board for listening and responding.
Tanner's first two-weeks has been busy. He met individually with all the Fall coaches and some Winter and Spring coaches to exchange ideas and coordinate scheduling. He re-organized the weightroom with the help of Revere athletes and coaches to maximize workflow and output. He recommended a new software system for viewing and logging workouts and detailed athlete tracking. This has already been implemented. Every athlete that attends training sessions can view and share what they are doing. Finally, Tanner proposed some new weightroom equipment that will benefit every athlete regardless of their level of development or confidence in the weightroom. Tanner plans to communicate regularly regarding scheduling and will actively use social media so Revere families can see what's happening. He already set up @revere_strength on Instagram. Tanner is very excited to help our kids in their safe and successful long-term athletic development!
With Excitement!
