RMS - Wrestling News - 1-19-22...

On Saturday, January 15th, the Revere Middle School wrestling team traveled to Woodridge High School to compete in the 2022 Woodridge Middle School Duals.

At the end of the tournament, our wrestling team finished with a record of four wins and one loss on the day, and placed 2nd out of 6 teams.  With these five matches, our overall team dual meet record stands at  12 - 8  on the season and  4 - 2 in the Suburban League.

Revere started off with a match against Streetsboro.  Revere prevailed by a score of 42 - 33.
Revere continued its hot start with a second round victory over Massillon.  The final team score was 58 - 12.

Revere finished with a close victory in their third match; defeating Stow by a score of 36 - 35.
Revere took on Woodridge in the fourth round and cruised to a convincing 48 - 24 victory.

Revere finished the day with a battle for first place against Brunswick Middle School.  Unfortunately, Revere had too many guys missing from the lineup and lost by a final score: 54 - 30.

Individually, only 10 wrestlers had an opportunity to represent Revere on Saturday, and of the 10 wrestlers, all 10 were able to compete in five matches in the course of the day.  Two of our varsity wrestlers finished the day undefeated !!!

Our undefeated varsity wrestlers were:
Mason Massouh was 5 - 0, with 2 pins, at 86 lbs., and: Dom Samartano  was 5 - 0, with 4 pins, at 142 lbs.

Five other varsity wrestler suffered only one loss in our five matches:
Mario Brienza at 116 lbs., Ved Desai at 122 lbs., Max Berlin at 134 lbs, Brody Smith at 160 lbs., and Dylan Pawlak at 245 lbs.

One other varsity wrestler had three wins in five matches:
Carson Sample at 80 lbs..

Our match with Stow was the most exciting match of the tournament.  Stow got out to a big lead, and they were ahead by a score of 35 to 12 before Revere came charging back.  Four consecutive pins by our Minutemen made the final score a one-point victory for our middle school wrestling team !!!  Rocco Bonacuse lost his match against Stow, but he refused to allow himself to be pinned.  In the end, the fact that Rocco did not give up a pin was the final margin of victory.

For his efforts this past weekend, Mario Brienza was chosen as our Wrestler of the Week !!!   Mario was 4 - 1 with 4 pins during the tournament.  Overall, he is 21 - 9 on the season and leads the team with 19 pins !!!

Today, Wednesday, January 19th, our wrestlers will travel to Harmon Middle School in Aurora.  All the action is scheduled to begin at 4:30pm.

If you see one of our RMS wrestlers in class, or in the hallway, wish him luck against today's competition !!!
