RHS Girls XC Team Strength Powers Them Through the Mud at Legends Invitational!

On Saturday,  the Girls Cross Country Team traveled to Youngstown to compete at the Legends Invitational against some of the best runners in Northeast Ohio and Pennsylvania.  Although the conditions did not make for many fast times, the team raced tough to some great performances in the JV and Varsity races.

The JV team started out the day with the 4th lowest point total out of the 31 teams from all divisions in their race.  Dee Dee Sawan, Ally Meixner, Allyson Shultz and Camryn Bir all finished in the top 20 and Lily Fox rounded out the teams' top 5 scorers with a top 30 placing.  Kayla Beard and Fiore Cannon were right behind to make up the teams first 7 runners. Six inches of mud made personal bests difficult, but Tessa Kraynak came back from injury to log the best 5k of her high school career!

In the varsity race, strong running from the full team led to a 7th place finish out of the 25 teams in the large school division race.  Megan Diulus led the way with Ellie Meech right behind as they took home the 12th and 13th place medals.  Katie Kinder ran another strong race to finish as the team's 3rd runner, while Laura Wagner was next across the line for the team with one of her best races all year!  Charlotte Keenan finished strong to close out scoring for the team and Evelyn Tucker, Norah Brownlee and Kayla Kephart all ran solid runs in the varsity race.

The team heads to Silver Creek Metro Park this weekend with hopes of defending their Suburban League Championship from last year.  Be sure to come cheer them on this Saturday!
