Revere High School Girls Soccer Team won their 2nd straight District Championship on Thursday evening when they defeated Aurora in a penalty shootout. Revere knew they would face a tough challenge after winning at Aurora in a Suburban League contest earlier in the season. That result prevented Aurora from winning the Suburban League outright and meant they had to settle for a share of the title with Copley. Revere knew Aurora would pose a stiffer test this time around, and so it proved with chances at a minimum during the 80 minutes. Kaitlyn Bodjanac had a good chance in the 1st half but the Aurora goalkeeper made a good save as she flung herself across the line to save the goal-bound effort. In the 2nd half a corner from Anna Clarke was headed towards the goal by Claire Brokloff, but the Aurora keeper managed to save the effort and the Aurora defence cleared the danger. The game went into two 15 minute periods of golden goal overtime, but as neither team managed to score, the game had to be decided by penalty kicks. Aurora missed their first, and Adison Novosel fired Revere into the lead with an expertly taken kick. Aurora then missed their 2nd kick, but Emily Albert fired her kick over the crossbar to leave Revere with a 1-0 lead after two of the 5 penalties. Aurora scored with their next kick, but Anna Clarke preserved the Revere lead with Revere's 3rd penalty. Aurora scored their next penalty, only for Julia Effinger to reply for Revere, leaving the Minutemen with a 3-2 advantage going into the last round of penalties. Aurora scored, but Taylor Kenna made no mistake as she fired her penalty past the Aurora goalkeeper to make Revere District Champions for the 2nd straight season.
